Egoscue is…

March 26, 2010

Something that has been on my mind this past week in describing what I do that actually means something to some one.  Most of what I currently tell people is that, “I help people in pain.” Which can mean anything.  I sometimes say, “I do Egoscue.”  E-what!?!  If you currently visited www.egoscue.com you would see, “The Egoscue Method; the World Leader in Non-Medical Pain Relief.” Cool, huh! To me that means something because I know, or at least I think I know, what I do.  But what does it mean to you?  You, the everyday person, and how could this word I can not pronounce relate to me in my life.

Yesterday, I did a little survey with Egoscue Therapists, yes we have many therapists in many parts of the country, and after the smoke had cleared here is the answer of a “therapist”:

- fun, self-reliance, amazing, life-changing, motivation, peace, health, needed, empowering, effective, light, free, functional, alignment, hope, unique, limitless…

After finishing this survey, it confirmed what I already knew, that I work with some of the most amazing people in the world and it’s much more than being the “World-Leader in Non-Medical Pain Relief.”  It’s having tools to empower, provide hope, allow for health and healing to happen with limitless possibilities.  If you or you know of anyone in your life could use some of these things, I would put a call into any one of the clinic across the country today.  Get started on something that you can have control of that will truly change your life.

Be REAL!

The Fight to End Childhood Obesity

December 17, 2009

‘Tis the season to be jolly, fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, laaa!

I’m sure those of you who celebrate the Christmas holiday hear this tune numerous time throughout the season.  They may even conjure up the image of the jolly, fat man himself.  Kris Kringle a.k.a. Santa Claus.  Well, the large, jovial picture we all get of that man spreading happiness and cheer throughout this time of year is starting to become more and more prominent during the whole year, not just the time of the winter solstice. I’m not talking about the picture of happiness and joy either.  Most of all, it is being seen in our youth.  Childhood obesity is a major issue within our world today.  How do we fix this?  Who is to blame? What will be the possible outcome of this?

Well, one possible result is already starting to rear its ugly head.  Pain.  In getting one of my many google news updates each day, I stumbled across this article from Massagemag.com click here.  The experts are finding results already that there is a startling number of overweight children between the ages of 6-19, but that more than half of these children are starting to show abnormalities in their spine!  A 15 year-old with degenerative disk disease, how scary does that sound.  What can be done?  It will not be an easy fix nor one that comes without work, but change is necessary.  One part of the solution is something that is already out there and one that kids need to rediscover for themselves (and maybe with some encouragement).  That one thing is play.  Allow these kids to be kids and just play.

The Egoscue Foundation and it’s PATCH program is a way to allow kids to get back to play.  With the Egoscue Method principals of posture, alignment and movement, it may be possible for us to tackle this issue head on.  The goal of the Egoscue Foundation is to donate these PATCH’s to every school across the country, so children can have the opportunity to re-learn how to play.  With no limits and no expectations on the children, its a great way for kids to be kids.  If anyone would like more information on the Egoscue Foundation or the PATCH click the links above.

There are a number of other great organization which are also a part of this process.  Another more well-known organization would be the NFL Play 60 program.  This program, which ironically does have a partnership with the Egoscue Foundation, asks children to get a minimum of 60 minutes of play each day.  I think this program and there message is perfect!  Let’s go and find more organizations like these to bring together.

So, who ever reads this, let’s start this ball rolling.  With the “fat-man” coming, there is no better time than now to start this!  If you know of any other organizations that would be in line with this, let’s get them together.  Let’s start today and make a difference for our children, their children, etc.  Change takes time, but there is no better time than now to start!

Deck the halls, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

Barefoot vs. Shoe Running

December 9, 2009

My new favorite topic of late, especially as someone that evaluates people’s posture for a living.  Take a look at this video and see what kind of difference your shoes can make.  How does it look to you?  Granted this is only one example, but use this as a test for yourself.  Whether you are a runner or not, move around with shoes on, then with shoes off.  How does it feel?  Which is more comfortable for you? How does your body react to it?

As humans, we are designed to walk upon this planet bare foot.  Shoes, at as we know them today, are a relatively new invention.  There is a pretty big debate within the running population about barefoot running.  The argument for barefoot running has been gaining momentum lately with books like Born to Run by Chris McDougall and the introduction of Vibram Five Finger shoes a few years ago.

Anyway, take a gander at this video.  Let me know what you think.  (Sorry for the sound quality, it is quite low).

Hello world!

December 2, 2009

Post #1:  As the title says above, “Hello world!”  Going to start today with something short, but please be on the look out for more.

I intend on using this blog to share stories, give out some useful tidbits of information, articles on current events, etc.  I’m not an expert by any means and the blog is not intended to give any “expert advice”, my one goal for you is the challenge of thinking.  Think about yourself, your body, your health, your relationships, think about why!

I’d like to first share a video from the Egoscue clinic in Japan.  Get you all thinking about you could be exercisig.  Is this really new technique or is it something that we’ve lost along the way?

(Just a warning this is all in Japanese)

Thanks and stay tuned for more.

Greg
